Modelling of Ship Dynamics Using Local Model Networks

Abstract:

The local model network architecture is a generalized form of radial basis function network and may be regarded as a grey box modelling approach. The resulting model structure is highly suitable for applications involving the modelling of systems in which the dynamic characteristics can vary significantly with the system operating conditions. In this paper, we investigate the potential of this architecture for modelling ship dynamics which vary significantly with the forward speed of the vessel. Performance is demonstrated by simulation studies.
